Drake Choir at Carnegie Hall

How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice! For the Drake Choir, getting to Carnegie Hall was no joke. The Choir, which sang two performances in that famous hall, rehearsed relentlessly to make the New York trip a reality. On June 9, 2002, the Drake Choir sang a solo performance, which featured, among other works, the challenging Reincarnations by Samuel Barber and Naiman Sharag sung in Mongolian. Later in the day the Choir joined forces with choirs from New Jersey and Missouri, Drake choir alumni, select members of the Drake University/Community Chorus and the New England Symphonic Ensemble, all under the direction of Dr. Aimee Beckmann-Collier, in a performance of Haydn's Creation Mass. After singing to a huge crowd and receiving a standing ovation, the Choir celebrated its performances at a reception hosted by Drake President David Maxwell. Many New York City area alumni, parents of the choir members, Drake faculty and administrators, and other Drake boosters attended the performance and reception.
