Chris Strohmaier has been Teaching Artist of Trumpet at Drake University since the fall of 2009. After graduating from Drake in 2001 with degrees in Trumpet Performance and Music Education, Mr. Strohmaier performed professionally on Holland America and Crystal cruise lines. Before returning to the Des Moines area, he attended graduate school at the University of North Texas . His primary trumpet instructors were Andrew Classen and Keith Johnson.

In addition to teaching trumpet at Drake, Mr. Strohmaier is the Director of Bands and Music Department Chair at Valley Southwoods Freshman High School in West Des Moines, where he directs the freshman concert band, two jazz bands, and assists with the Valley Marchmasters. Chris is a member of the South-Central Iowa Bandmasters Association, the Iowa Bandmasters Association, Jazz Educators of Iowa, the International Trumpet Guild, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. Chris lives in Waukee with his lovely wife, Phaedra.
