Curriculum

Drake offer two degree paths: the Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor of Science. Both degrees allow students to tailor their experience at Drake to their specific interests and career goals.

Core Courses

Regardless of which degree path you choose, all BCMB majors complete the same basic curriculum. Depending on your degree choice, this core is expanded by more science classes, or a career focus area.

Bachelor of Science; Biochemistry Cell and Molecular Biology.

The Bachelor of Science major best serves the needs of students interested in graduate programs in molecular life sciences and students interested in bachelor's level employment. Download the BS Advising Form.

Bachelor of Arts; Biochemistry Cell and Molecular Biology.

A Bachelor of Arts major best meets the needs of students interested in cross-disciplinary careers that merge a strong science background with a field of its application. Download the BA Advising Form.

Career Focus Areas

In addition to the requirements outlined above, students pursuing B.A.s must complete 15 credit hours in a Career Focus Area approved by their BCMB Advisor. There are a very broad range of topics for Career Focus Areas; you can even create your own. Students pursuing a B.S. are also encouraged to explore other disciplines.
