F1 and J1 Visa status International students will automatically be enrolled in and billed for the student health insurance plan.  To enroll international dependent(s) and/or spouse into the insurance plan, please contact the Drake International Center at 515-271-2084.

Domestic students (U.S. citizens and permanent residents) and any other visa status students will not automatically be enrolled in the health insurance plan.  Domestic students enrolled in 6 or more credit hours and are in a Drake degree seeking program  may voluntarily enroll in the student health insurance plan online at www.sas-mn.com 

While insurance enrollment for Domestic Students is voluntary, Drake University feels that Accident and Sickness Insurance is important  for the well being of all students and enhances each student's ability to excel in their education.  Please carefully review the status of your health insurance coverage.

 PLAN HIGHLIGHTS for the August 1, 2011-July 31, 2012 PLAN YEAR

1.  The plan administrator continues to be Student Assurance Services. www.sas-mn.com  The insurance is underwritten by Columbian Life Insurance.

2. The Wellness (preventative) benefit is $200 a plan year.  A $20 copay for a preferred provider office visit applies.  Deductible does not apply.

5.  The Prescription maximum coverage is $1000 per plan year.

6. Deductibles are: $300 per plan year for preferred providers. $500 per plan year  for non-preferred providers.

7.  No lifetime plan maximum.

Intercollegiate $2500 Sports Rider $325/ Annual  Athletes who enroll in the student health insurance plan must also enroll in the Intercollegiate Sports Rider. The Sports Rider can not be purchased alone.

Voluntary Discount program $30 / Annual This is not insurance.  It is a card to allow for a negotiated percentage off of services at various dental, pharmacy, and vision providers.

RE: Student Dependent and/or Spouse Coverage Enrollment.  If the student wants to purchase coverage for their spouse or dependent(s), then the student must sign up their dependent(s) and/or spouse at the time that the student enrolls in the insurance.  Payment must also be made at the time of enrollment.
