Adams Bowers Center

ABC with Students

Warren Adams (left) - Faculty member from 1967 through 1987. Newton Bowers (right) - Faculty member from 1969 through 1996.

The center is named after Warren Adams and Newton Bowers who exemplified quality in actuarial science education at Drake University. They were both dynamic members of the actuarial profession. It was founded in 2001 with donations from many corporations and individuals. The Adams Bowers Center (ABC) is located in the lower level of Aliber Hall.

The ABC offers numerous learning resources for actuarial students. They are:
  1. Actuarial journals and magazines, computers, and study materials for the actuarial exams (DVDs, books and study guides).
  2. Exam review classes staffed by students.
  3. Center is open evenings and weekends.
  4. Quiet study area accessible to only actuarial students.

Stuart Klugman was instrumental in getting this project off the ground. An endowment was established to provide funding for the continued operation of the center. The majority of the earnings from the endowment are used to support actuarial exam fee reimbursements when students successfully complete a professional actuarial exam. The earnings are also used to support other needs, including continuing education for professors.
