Drake professor honored by American Pharmacists Association
| Drake University Professor John Rovers has been selected as a 2007-08 Fellow of the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and Science (APhA-APRS). "It is a great honor to have Dr. Rovers recognized for his professional service in pharmacy practice and his work with APhA-APRS," said Dean Raylene Rospond. "He has been instrumental also in the development of the college’s international focus for our students with his work. It is a recognition well deserved for Dr. Rovers," she added. Candidates for APhA Fellow must have at least 10 years of experience and achievements in professional pharmacy practice and outstanding service in the profession through activities in APhA and other organizations. Rovers will officially be recognized as a 2008 Fellow at the APhA annual meeting March 15-16 in San Diego, Calif. Rovers, associate professor of pharmacy and health sciences, has been a member of the American Pharmacists Association since 1997. He has served as both member at large and chair of the Clinical Sciences Section of APhA-APRS and has served on several committees. Currently, he is faculty adviser for the Drake University student chapter of APhA and is a candidate for APhA-APRS President. Since joining the Drake faculty in 1991, Rovers has taught numerous courses including:
In addition, he has developed and taught study abroad programs in South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and France. The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Drake honored him with the Teacher of the Year award in 2006-2007. Rovers spent the beginning years of his profession in Ontario, Canada in both hospital and community pharmacy settings, where he practiced in the areas of infectious disease and burns. Rovers earned a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy at the University of Toronto and a Doctor of Pharmacy at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. |
