FAQ

Question:
Would you suggest taking a year or two of pre-pharmacy courses at a community college and then transferring to Drake?

Answer: We cannot recommend this plan. Drake does not offer admission to pre-pharmacy transfer students; admission is only offered at the entering freshman and professional-program levels. Due to the PharmD Difference, most slots for the professional program are taken by students who started in Drake’s pre-pharmacy program. This means that few slots are open to transfer students who have completed pre- pharmacy coursework and admission to the program is highly selective. The number of open slots will change from year to year.

Plus, there are many advantages to starting at Drake. Drake offers a guarantee into the professional program upon meeting the established criteria, and students are assigned a pharmacy faculty advisor from the start. Students also have the opportunity to enroll in a series of orientation courses that help them learn more about the profession and potential career avenues and can join the various professional student organizations. All of these opportunities allow students more exposure to the culture of the profession and to network with practicing pharmacists.
