FAQ

Question: What happens if I don't meet the Drake PharmD Difference requirements?

Answer: Students who do not meet the criteria for admission into the professional program have the following options:

1) Apply for Drake's program or other pharmacy schools through PharmCAS. However, it is important to note that admission at Drake just like other schools is competitive.

2) Visit the Career and Professional Development Coordinator at Drake to consider other majors that would be a better match for your interests and skills. Drake’s Career and Professional Development Coordinator has some terrific resources on various career options in the science fields, and don’t forget that you do not have to have a pharmacy license to work in pharmacy-related fields. The pharmaceutical industry, for example, needs graduates in a wide variety of fields that include research and business.

We encourage students to think about their options earlier rather than later. We suggest that if students are not meeting the criteria after their first year (which is a good indicator for meeting the criteria after the second year), that they develop a Plan B. This provides them time to consider their options and prevents hasty decisions at the end of the student's sophomore year, when a major must be declared. Drake offers a number of other majors so that a student would not have to transfer to another institution to complete a degree.
