Description of DRxUGS Position Duties

Liason - Elects

  • To be familiar with all operations of chosen national affiliate at the National, Regional, State and Local chapter level
  • To become conversant in all aspects of the office of the Liaison
  • To assume the duties of the Liaison in the absence of the Liaison due to impeachment, resignation, election to chose National office or other causes
  • To attend all functions and meetings at which the Liaison's attendance is require, to be fully trained, before assuming the Liaison's office
  • To serve a on-year term of office as Liaison-Elect and a on-year term as Liaison


Task Force Executive Directors:

  • To filter information between the Board of Trustees and committees
  • To serve as an ex-officio member of all committees under chosen task force
  • To evaluate all the programs under the chosen task force every year, with the possibility to remove and modify as deemed necessary
  • Maintain communication lines with DRxUGS advisor and Associate Dean of Student Affairs concerning activities of committee.

Secretary:

  • To maintain communication between the Board of Trustees and membership
  • To carry the DRxUGS Constitution to all general meetings
  • To set up the e-mail boxes for all DRxUGS members and members which are affiliated at the National level
  • To maintain records of all general and Board of Trustees meetings
  • To communicate all important dates and information to all membership that was discussed at the general meeting
  • To contact the Associate Dean of Student Affairs about weekly announcements

Committee Heads:

International Pharmaceutical Students Federation (IPSF)

  • Must be an APhA member
  • Must maintain contact with IPSF National Liaison
  • Promotes all IPSF progects but not limited to Neema Project, Book Appeal, SKIP, and Tobacco Alert

Pharmacy Recovery Network (PRN)

  • Must maintain contact with the Iowa PRN Officer
  • Must prepare one mock intervention per year

Interdisciplinary

  • Must maintain contact with area health professional organizations
  • Must coordinate speakers and events throughout the semester with at least one per semester

Patient Counseling

  • Must be an APhA member
  • Must coordinate patients and evaluators
  • Set up all videotaping equipment
  • Must maintain contact with National office

Alumni Relations

  • Must maintain a current alumni list
  • Must contact alumni for events like fundraising, Operation Immunizations and Clinical Skills Competition
  • Must communicate with Alumni as needed

Internship and Scholarship

  • Must maintain and update boxes and books in the Osco Computer Lab concerning scholarship and internships
  • Must remain in contact with area pharmacy organization and pharmacies for job/internship opportunities
  • Must communicate with secretary to inform DRxUGS members of these opportunities

Student Political Information Network (SPIN)

  • Must be an APhA member
  • Must maintain contact with National office
  • Must coordinate letter campaigns
  • Must inform DRxUGS members of legislative events

Clinical Skills Competition

  • Must be an ASHP member
  • Must maintain contact with National organization
  • Event must be set up before Fall Break
  • Must find three evaluators

Speakers and Issues

  • Must be responsible for all guest speakers
  • Must sponsor events concerning National Monthly Themes (i.e. Breast Cancer Awareness in October)

CPR

  • Must maintain contact with Iowa Methodist Community Training Center
  • Must provide CPR classes to the College of Pharmacy students
  • At least a minimum of two classes per year must be scheduled

Fundraising

  • Must be responsible for all fundraising activities

Social

  • Must be responsible for all social activities
  • At least one major event per semester must be don (i.e. All College Social, Mistletoe Mingle, or College Picnic)

Recruitment

  • At least one membership drive per semester must be done
  • Must be responsible for collecting membership forms and funds
  • Forms and funds must be turned over to the finance executive director

Posters

  • Must have posters up one week prior to event and meetings
  • Must advertise all DRxUGS sponsored and co-sponsored events

Website Designer

  • During the first year, must create DRxUGS website
  • Must update the DRxUGS website every semester
  • Must maintain links to state, regional, and national sites
  • Any student run national website will be maintained by an appointed member of National organization

Capsule

  • A newsletter written each semester including a report from each on-campus pharmacy fraternity and sorority, Dean of the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences and Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and overview of DRxUGS events and activities

National Pharmacy Week

  • Promote college-wide activities with the current theme for National Pharmacy Week

Campus Relations

  • In charge of Olmsted Window Display, Drake Relays, Homecoming, and other campus activities deemed necessary by the committee

Internal Affairs Coordinator

  • The financial executive director will hold the DRxUGS checkbook and manage the reconciliation of the DRxUGS checkbook
  • Distribution of money using the DRxUGS established point system
  • Yearly financial report for National organizations
  • Must maintain non-profit organization status
  • Maintain any other financial aspect determined necessary by other parties
  • Maintain communication lines with DRxUGS advisor and the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs

External Affair Coordinator

  • Must maintain contact with Iowa Pharmacy Association
  • Acquires outside financial support
  • Responsible for state and national money
  • Collect and receive financial support from the alumni

Katy's Kids

  • Must maintain contact with area schools
  • Must set up presentations with area schools
  • Majority of dates must be set by second general meeting of September

Meth Talks

  • Must maintain contact with area schools
  • Must maintain training sessions
  • Majority of dates must be set by second general meeting of September

Ronald McDonald's House

  • Must maintain contact with the Ronald McDonald's House
  • Must cook meals for families with children at Blank's Children's Hospital
  • Must buy needed supplies for the house
  • Must have dates set by second general meeting of September

Operation Immunization

  • Must be a SNPhA or APhA member
  • Must maintain contact with area immunizing pharmacies and pharmacists
  • Set up dates by the first meeting of October
  • Refer to annual National Handbook for this event

Walks

  • Plan area walks and alert members of dates to get volunteers
  • Must have at least one walk per semester but there is not a limit on the number
  • Plan and coordinate volunteers for Night Eyes at Blank Park Zoo

Operation Diabetes

  • Must be an APhA member
  • Must maintain contacts with participating pharmacists and pharmacies
  • Set up dates and communicate with the secretary

Keep Your Options Open (KYOO)

  • Maintain contact with area high school counselors
  • Have dates set up by the second meeting in September
  • Maintain contact with area pharmacists to go with to the high schools

Brown Bag Service

  • Set up contacts with elderly community
  • Set up dates for each semester
  • Must have at least one date per semester

Minority Representative

  • Must be a SNPhA member
  • Must maintain minority representation in DRxUGS
  • Promote minority issues in community; work the SNPhA Liaison
  • Must have one activity per semester
  • Help promote minorities in the profession

Garden

  • Maintains the garden in the front of the Pharmacy and Science building
  • Maintenance shall include regular water, planting and weeding
  • Maintain contact with the Physical Plant and the Adopt-a-Garden director
