Heading Out For Spring Break

by Amy Neswold

Des Moines, Iowa (Feb. 12, 1997)-- American Airlines flight 123 is now departing for.... This will be ringing in many Drake students ears very soon. What are Drake students doing March 24 through the 30 during the days of spring break?

Whether it be to the sunny beaches of Florida, the lights and excitement of Las Vegas or just returning home, many Drake students have big plans for the break.

Ron Krit (BN3) is heading to Panama City, Fla. He is going with his roommate and two other friends. Krit said, "I'm very excited, this is the first spring vacation I've taken. We are taking my roommate's car and road tripping all the way down there."

Krit added, "It will take us about 24 hours to get to Panama City, Fla, but the long drive is worth all the fun we are going to have."

Not everyone is heading to the beachl some have more lights in mind.

Kristen McGill (JO3) is flying out of O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, headed for Las Vegas, Nev. She is going on break with 12 of her friends. Some of the friends attend Drake, but many of them will be meeting her there from other universities.

McGill said, "The whole point of this trip is to be able to go somewhere with friends so we can all celebrate being 21 together. I've been waiting a long time to turn 21, and I can't think of a better place to go and celebrate."

She is staying in the brand new hotel New York, New York , and is vacationing for four days. "I'm only going for four days because I don't want to gamble my life savings away," she said. "Then I'm returning home to Chicago, Ill., to spend the rest of break with my family."

Other students are also returning to their hometowns to visit with friends and family.

Going home for spring break means home-cooked meals, free laundry machines and all the comforts of being around your family. Zach Johnson (BN3) said, "I'm looking forward to going home and relaxing. I don't want to go on spring vacation I just want to get away from the pressures of school." Nate Top (AS1) said, " I'm looking forward to go home to spend time with my girlfriend I haven't seen since Christmas break.

Students have many different plans for spring vacation but the majority agreed: They just want a break away from school.
