Certificate in Online Teaching Pedagogy

Drake University Extension Education in conjunction with the Iowa AEA Professional Development Online Learning System now offers a certificate in Online Teaching Pedagogy. This is a unique opportunity for educators at all levels to obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to become an effective online instructor. The certificate validates that the holder has successfully completed a specific number of required and elective courses that were developed by the Iowa AEA Professional Development Online Learning System as well as others provided by Drake University Extension Education.

In order to receive the certificate, you must take all courses for Drake University Extension Education graduate credit (EDMA). Please contact Chuck Sengstock upon completion of your coursework. He will validate that you have completed the courses and issue your certificate.

The required courses through the Iowa AEA Professional Development Online Learning System are as follows:

  • Introduction to the Online Learner - 1 Credit
  • Technology for Online Instruction - 2 Credits
  • Online Learning Instructional Design - 2 Credits
  • Online Facilitation - 2 Credits
  • Assessment, Feedback and Evaluation - 2 Credits

Elective courses through Drake University Extension Education are as follow (students are required to take two of the four courses listed):

  • EDMA 222 - Action Research in the E-Learning Environment - 3 credits
  • EDMA 223 - Blended and Synchronous Learning Design - 3 credits
  • EDMA 224 - Building Online Collaborative Environments - 3 credits
