Theories of Language Acquisition (EDDL 282)

Course Overview
This course examines concepts of first- and second-language acquisition as they relate to practical classroom application. Theories and research of second-language development and acquisition will be discussed and compared. The issue of bilingualism and the instructional use of students first language will be explored. Strategies and techniques will be evaluated in order to design a learning environment that accommodates leaner variables, increases cognitive growth, and effectively promotes second-language acquisition.
