Course Overview

Optics, a field that describes the behavior and properties of light and the interaction of light with matter, may be one of the most relevant, immediate and captivating topics your students will study. The blue sky, a red sunset, rainbows and mirages are familiar examples of naturally occurring optical phenomena. This course is designed to assist your in creating optics activities that will engage your students, help challenge and change their perception of optical phenomena, improve their understanding of optical concepts and processes, and demonstrate the relevance of optics in their daily lives. Resources for teaching topics such as reflection, refraction, lenses and mirrors, sources of light, color theory, photography, holography and visual perception will be provided. While its true that students can learn about science by watching, listening, and reading about it, they must do science to gain true understanding. A critical component of this course is the Action Research Project. You will engage in a research-solutions to your own classroom situations.
