Course Overview

Advances in technology have changed the way we live, work, play, communicate, teach, and learn. These changes require a new set of skills and new types of literacies, including technology literacy, computer literacy, network literacy, Internet literacy, information literacy and media literacy. For students to be successful in the 21st century, they and you must develop and be proficient in these literacies. This course focuses on tools and techniques you can use to foster information and media literacy to enhance learning in you classroom. You will examine research on the importance of information and media literacies and see for yourself how they can transfer classrooms. Through the course assignments, you will enhance your own information and media literacy skills. Your exploration of provided techniques will make you a savvy Internet researcher and informed guide to your students on the ethical use of information they find there. You application of new tools will streamline organization and analysis of your electronic resources, and your survey of award-winning projects and strategies will open your eyes to the possibilities in your own classroom. Most important, you will leas you technology-savvy students rather than struggling to keep up with what they know.
