COURSE OVERVIEW

Free yourself from constantly dealing with behavioral and organizational issues, and empower your students to take responsibility for their own learning experience. Classroom management refers to all of the things you do to organize students, space, time, and materials so that instruction in content and student learning can take place.

Learn the skills of effective classroom management to create a positive classroom structure that maximizes student learning. Develop techniques to increase desired student behaviors and decrease undesired behaviors. Create an action plan of practical strategies to implement immediately in the classroom.

Structure a positive learning environment.

  • Identify the qualities of effective classroom managers.
  • Create an inviting emotional climate.
  • Set up a positive physical environment.
  • Establish effective rules and classroom procedures.
  • Design lessons that maintain momentum and flow.
  • Increase desired behaviors through positive reinforcement.

Stop misbehavior and prevent it from recurring.

  • Respond appropriately to students.
  • Use a hierarchy of consequences for minor through major misbehaviors.
  • Understand the relationship between discipline and learning styles.

Give and receive support.

  • Encourage parental involvement.
  • Establish and maintain rapport with parents throughout the school year.
  • Practice strategies for stress reduction, personal renewal, and colleague support.
