E-waste

Electronics, computers, and other electric devices contain toxic heavy metals such as mercury, lead, cadmium, and silver.  In addition, older equipment often contains toxic fireproofing chemicals and polychlorinated biphenyl (PCBs) which are extremely toxic.  Devices that potentiality contain these chemicals must not be thrown in the trash; they must be properly disposed of to prevent the toxins from escaping into the environment.

Drake University conducts a collection of e-waste each year during the summer semester.  Drake will accept computer towers, computer monitors, computer mice and keyboards, and computer accessories and parts.  To turn in e-waste, complete the e-waste turn in form found on the forms page of this website.  All computer equipment that is in working order must be kept separate from nonworking equipment for turn-ins.

To turn in other electronic equipment, complete the non-computer e-waste form.  A waste determination will be preformed by the Environmental, Safety, and Health officer and you will be advised on the proper disposal of the e-waste.
