LEAD

Lead is a highly toxic heavy metal found in many locations: electronics, paint, and glass.  Each can all posses dangerous levels of lead.  Care must be taken when disposing of potential lead sources as to not contaminate the environment.

All paints containing lead must be turned into the the EHS department for disposal as hazardous waste.

Lead based paint in residential homes presents a significant source of lead poisoning in children under six. Drake University owns numerous residential homes that are rented to students.  Drake tests homes for the presence of lead and performs appropriate lead abetment, if necessary using qualified and licensed lead abatement contractors.

EPA required lead information is provided to residents upon signing of the rental contract.
