Mission and Vision
The mission of the Office of Information Technology (OIT) is to provide the Drake community with the information technology leadership, services and support needed to achieve the University’s goals.
OIT's vision is that of an IT environment which empowers faculty, students and staff to use technology creatively and effectively to achieve their goals. This environment will have a standards-based architecture with secure, reliable infrastructure and services, and easy access to information. OIT will be focused on anticipating and meeting the needs of the community in an efficient and effective manner, and will have the resources appropriate to its mission.
The values of OIT staff include: customer focus and service, empowerment, open communication, and a commitment to quality in all that it does.
Summary of OIT Strategy, FY07-FY09
Organizational Structure
The Chief Information Officer (CIO), Paul M. Morris, reports to the the Provost of the University, Ronald Troyer. The CIO oversees three organizational units: Campus Information Systems, Instructional Technology, and Computer and Network Services.
Campus Information Systems develops and maintains enterprise level administrative applications and their associated database(s) to support the operation of the university as related to students, faculty and staff as well as prospective students and alumni. Desktop Services (e.g. the Support Center) assists with the installation, setup and use of desktop computers.
The Instructional Technology program assists students and faculty with the use of technology to enhance learning. Software acquisition develops agreements with software providers such as Microsoft and Adobe to assure University access to the software they need at the lowest cost available.
Computer & Network Services develops and maintains the server, network and telecommunications infrastructure to support the instructional, administrative and research requirements of students, faculty and staff. It also provides a full array of email, web, calendar, directory and other services.
