Procedures and Terms Applicable to Student Owned Computers

Qualifying computers:

Any computer owned by a student currently enrolled at Drake University in a course or courses that are part of a program of studies leading toward a diploma, certificate, degree, or other formal award. Students may be attending classes full or part-time and may be taking courses on or off-campus.

Available software licenses:

Students may have a single copy of one of the available versions of Office (listed below) and a single copy of one of the versions of FrontPage.

Office 2007 for Windows
Office 2003 Windows
Office 2004 Mac
FrontPage

The following terms apply:

  1. The software may be installed on only one computer.

  2. If the Microsoft License Agreement is canceled by either Drake or Microsoft, you will be notified and the software must be deleted from the computer.

  3. When students depart from the University, they may obtain a license for the use of the software in perpetuity. To do so they must go the OIT offices in Carnegie Hall and complete all necessary forms.

Distribution procedures and terms for student owned equipment:

  1. Qualified students must come to the OIT offices in Carnegie Hall (for students enrolled in off-campus programs, also see Off-Campus Distribution) and sign a document stating that they understand the conditions under which they may install and use the software and the terms under which it must be deleted. In turn, students will receive a copy of the applicable software installer on CD. They will also receive instructions on the installation of the software, a product key, and a copy of the terms and conditions applicable to the use of the software and the terms under which the software must be deleted.
  2. Students, and anyone in possession of a student software installer CD, are expressly forbidden from copying software on the CDs or giving the CDs to others. Students are also forbidden from sharing the product keys that accompany the CD.
  3. If a student suspects that the software license or campus agreement is not being followed, they are obligated to report the situation to OIT.
  4. Departing students who want to continue using the software after they leave the University must come to Carnegie and apply for a perpetual license. Perpetual Licenses are available at no charge and can be obtained within a week of the student's anticipated departure date. The perpetual license is only valid for the current version of the software and not future versions. Students will receive documentation transferring the license from the University to their name.
