COLUMBIA LAW PROF TO DISCUSS 'RACE, GENDER AND SOCIAL JUSTICE'

Patricia J. Williams, professor of law at Columbia University and a columnist for The Nation, will give a free public lecture at Drake University on Monday, April 19. Her lecture, titled "Race, Gender and Social Justice," will start at 7:30 p.m. in Sheslow Auditorium in Old Main, 25th Street and University Avenue.

Williams, a recipient of a MacArthur Foundation genius grant, is author of "The Alchemy of Race and Rights," which was named one of the 25 best books of 1991 by the Voice Literary Supplement. The book also was honored as one of the "feminist classics of the last 20 years" that "literally changed women's lives" in Ms. magazine's 20th Century Edition.

Additional books by Williams include "Seeing a Color Blind Future: The Paradox of Race" and "The Rooster's Egg: On the Persistence of Prejudice."
