FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 18, 2002 CONTACT: Lisa Lacher, (515) 271-3119 FRESH AND CHALLENGING - NEW WORK AT DRAKE UNIVERSITY GALLERIES "Four Identities 4 Artists," an exhibition featuring the work of four Drake University senior Bachelor of Fine Arts students, will be on view at the Anderson Gallery and adjacent Weeks Gallery from Tuesday, Feb. 26, through March 12. The exhibition features graphic designers Kim Rowe Dyer, Heidi Gough and Alesha Hartin and printmaker Adrienne Hooker. Dyer's work will be on display in the Weeks Gallery in the lobby of the Harmon Fine Arts Center, 25th Street and Carpenter Avenue. The other three artists will have their work displayed in the Anderson Gallery in the Harmon Fine Arts Center. The opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 1. The reception and the exhibition are free and open to the public. Dyer, whose work will be on display in the Weeks Gallery in the lobby of the Harmon Fine Arts Center, defines her graphic design work as "a humble, inner reflection of [her] deep appreciation for art." Gough describes her work as a thoughtful and precise investigation of the relationship between material and product. Gough's work draws from art of the past due to her background in art history. Hartin explores the issue of interaction between imagery and text: "It's very important to me, not only to have good typography, but to also represent it to the fullest visually," she says. Her work reflects an interest in the significance of photos and illustrations within the realm of design. Hooker deals with issues of self-representation in her work: "I communicate through my art. I can best record and express who I am through a visual language," she says. Her most recent work, in lithography, incorporates text and image, creating a personal vocabulary. The Anderson Gallery is open from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. The Weeks Gallery hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
