PERFORMANCE CONSULTANT TO SPEAK AT DRAKE FRIDAY

Dana Gaines Robinson, a performance consultant and an author of award-winning books about performance consulting, will give a workshop at Drake University on Friday, June 16. The workshop, which is open to the public, will emphasize learning the principles and practicing the techniques of a performance consultant.

"Traditionally, training functions have focused resources on the design and delivery of learning products and services," said Tom Westbrook, associate professor of education at Drake University. "It has become increasingly apparent, however, that learning alone will not change performance. Research clearly indicates that people use less than 30 percent of what they learn back on-the-job. In response, more and more people are adopting performance-consulting techniques in their day-to-day practice."

Robinson and her husband, Jim, are the authors of "Performance Consulting," a book that has sold more than 50,000 copies and was selected by the Society of Human Resource Management for its 1996 book award. Last year, Dana and Jim Robinson received the Distinguished Contribution Award for Workplace Learning and Performance from the American Society for Training and Development.

Dana Robinson is the founder of Partners in Change Inc. Her clients include Duracell Inc., Steelcase, Royal Bank Financial Group and Eli Lilly and Co. She is a frequent speaker at national confer-ences, including those of the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD). She also speaks and works internationally; to date she has worked with organizations in Canada, the Netherlands, Chile, Mexico and New Zealand.

Robinson holds a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of California, Berkeley, and a master's degree in psychoeducational processes from Temple University, Philadelphia.

Robinson's workshop at Drake will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, June 16, in Parents Hall at Olmsted Center. The cost is $165. For more information or registration, call (515) 271-3078.
