STUDENT COMEDIANS INVITED TO AUDITION FOR CONTEST
Drake students
with a flair for comedy are invited to audition for "Night
of a Thousand Laughs," a
standup comedy competition sponsored
by the English Department. Auditions will be held from 6 to 8:40 p.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 19, in room 308 of Howard Hall. Performers should pre-register
for the auditions by contacting Randall Huff, visiting assistant professor
of English, at x3828 or randall.huff@drake.edu.
"Night of a Thousand Laughs" will take place at 8 p.m. Monday, Dec.
1, on the Jordan Stage in Sheslow Auditorium in Old Main. A panel of
distinguished judges will select the funniest man and woman on
campus. Judges will include President David Maxwell and First Lady
Madeleine Maxwell; Provost Ronald Troyer and his wife, Susan; Adam
Lackey, co-captain of the Drake football team; and Jessica Oeth, a
member of the women's cross country team.
Drake alumnus and local television celebrity and standup comedian
Steve Berry will serve as master of ceremonies for the event. Bruce
Martin, a professional musician as well as the Ellis and Nelle Levitt
professor of English, will provide the music for the show.
