Hometown: Itasca, IL

Internship/Work Experience: Walgreens pharmacy technician, Walgreens summer pharmacy internship, volunteer pharmacy technician at DuPage Convalescent Care Center.

Notable Achievements: Participated in the Ninth Annual Iowa Pharmacy Student Leadership Conference, helped raise more than $1,000 through 2003 DRxUGS Auction, received the 2003 Drake University Top Sophomore Award and Phi Delta Chi Pledge of the Year 2003, raised more than $3,000 for Phi Delta Chi to attend 2004 Leadership Develop Seminar and helped organize a communication and diversity workshop on campus in 2004.

Career Aspirations: “It’s hard to say this early in my education, but I think I would like to combine my desire to help patients and my understanding of business by owning my pharmacy. But who knows — this dream may change with another three years of pharmacy school.”
“When I first came to Drake, I wanted to conduct medical research. This quickly changed when I took a job at Walgreens in my hometown. The pharmacy manager was a recent Drake graduate who ‘took me under his wing’ and encouraged me to become the best pharmacist I can be. He was very inspiring in my earlier stages of college and changed my career path right there.”

 


Faculty Profile

Geoffrey C. Wall

Title: Assistant professor of pharmacy practice and internal medicine clinical pharmacist, Iowa Methodist Medical Center

Classes Taught: Inpatient Internal Medicine Clerkship; Medical Intensive Care Clerkship; Clinical Pharmacokinetics; Pharmacotherapeutics, Pharmacotherapy, Introduction to Infectious Diseases.

Favorite Class to Teach: Intro to Infectious Diseases
Educational and Professional Background: Wall has a BS in pharmacy from the University of Utah and a PharmD from Idaho State University and did an ASHP-accredited pharmacy residency in internal medicine at Scott and White Hospitals and Clinics, in Temple, TX. He came to Drake in 1999.

Research Interests: Gastroenterologic disorders, specifically Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and immunology, specifically drug allergy

Notable Achievements: Developed Pharmacy Practice Residency Program at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, was selected as Iowa Health System Pharmacist of the Year 2003, was elected as chair of the GI/Liver/Nutrition Practice Research Network of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and a board member of the Iowa Arthritis Foundation, received CPHS Mentor of the Year award.

Off-the-Job Interests: Running, music, movies, racquetball and raising his daughter Sarah.
“I really enjoy it when students graduate and stay in contact as their careers progress and I can see the transition from student to colleague. Also it’s rewarding when newer students develop a love of the profession.”

Lindsey Stephens, RPh

Graduation Year/Major: 1998/Pharmacy with minor in Biology

Occupation: Senior manager, professional services for Medicap Pharmacies Inc. in West Des Moines, IA

Professional Associations/Notable Achievements: Received the $10,000 Drake John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Award in 1999. Member of Iowa Pharmacy Association, National Community Pharmacists Association, Central Iowa Pharmacists Association, American Pharmacy Association and Society of Human Resource Managers.

Research Interests: Osteoporosis, women’s health issues and cardiovascular disease.

Off-the-Job Interests: Cooking, water sports and traveling.

Favorite Drake Class: Either her marketing class or Interpersonal Communications taught by Lloyd and Cathy Sternberg. “The class subjects were very interesting, and I spent time interacting with students with other majors.”

“I can’t imagine attending another college and having the encouragement and support that I gained while at Drake. I still experience wonderful support from my fellow Drake classmates and professors and from alumni whom I meet across the country. Everyone wants to see other Drake grads excel in their chosen career field.”
