DRAKE TO CELEBRATE
BLACK HISTORY MONTH
In celebration of African-American History Month, Drake University has organized
numerous special events highlighting the history, culture and accomplishments
of African Americans.
Author Jawanza Kunjufu will speak on "The Survival of the Black Race in the
21st Century" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, in Levitt Hall in Old Main, 26th
Street and University Avenue. Kunjufu has written more than 20 books, including
"Countering the Conspiracy to Destroy Black Boys."
There will be two Black Movie Nights at the Black Cultural Center, 1149 28th St.,
featuring a black exploitation film and a discussion session. "Dolimite"
will be shown at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, and "Coffy" will be shown
at 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26.
The annual Awards Recognition Banquet for African-American students excelling
in academics and athletics will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, in Parents
Hall at Olmsted Center.
