SOROS TO GIVE SPEECH AT DRAKE UNIVERSITY OCT. 22
George Soros, a financier, philanthropist, author and philosopher, will speak
at noon Friday, Oct. 22, in Drake University's Sheslow Auditorium in Old Main,
25th Street and University Avenue. His speech, which is free and open to the

Born in Budapest, Soros fled communist Hungary for England in 1947, where he

States in 1956 and founded an international investment fund that made him a
billionaire.
Soros has established a network of philanthropic organizations active in more
than 50 countries. His Open Society Institute and other networks have spent
$450 million annually to promote the values of democracy and bring about social,
legal and economic change. Soros is the author of eight books, including "The
Bubble of American Supremacy: The Costs of Bush’s War in Iraq." His
articles and essays on politics, society and economics regularly appear in major
newspapers and magazines around the world.
