Projects and Events

p>Projects and programs that Drake University and the Drake Parents Association plan and support include the following. Enjoy!

Programs and Activities

Parents and Family Weekend will be held September 16-18, 2011 on campus, so please mark your calendars now! The Drake Parents Association traditionally hosts a continental breakfast and Presidents Assembly on Saturday morning of Parents Weekend, with other programs and festivities to fill the weekend. Click here for more information.

Student Recruitment Programs: Drake Parents Board members are actively involved in assisting with student recruitment by hosting and attending home receptions, and calling and writing to the parents of prospective students.

Support of New Parents: Drake Parents Board members remember all too well the questions and worries they had when their students were freshmen. During the fall semester year, Parents Board members contact parents of first-year students to help answer questions, serve as a resource and inform them of various campus activities and encourage them to attend.

The Drake Fund: Each year, the Drake Parents Board encourages all Drake parents to contribute to The Drake Fund, which provides important support for all the aspects of Drake that most benefit students – from exceptional faculty and academic programs to scholarships and learning materials.

Drake Publications

Parents Handbook: This resource guide is designed to provide parents with helpful information.  All of the information in the handbook is located on this website in the Living, Learning, Visiting and Contacting links at the top of the page.

“Blue” Magazine: Parents receive this informative and colorful Drake magazine, which is produced three times a year. It includes news about campus, students, faculty, and outstanding alumni, as well as information about upcoming events and new programs.

Services

Bus Trips Home: These trips are a safe and affordable way to transport students home for holiday breaks. Buses are scheduled for the Chicago and Twin Cities areas, pending interest among students. Please click here for more information.

Short Term Health Insurance: The GradMed Short Term Medical Insurance Plan is immediate, affordable, short-term major medical insurance designed specifically for new graduates to protect them for a period of time after they graduate, until they can obtain more permanent health insurance from their new employers.
