Reasons for the Project

This project is a key to the long-term health and vitality of the University. It is imperative to strengthen our Web presence so that we continue to attract the most-qualified new students, while at the same time providing state-of-the-art customized services and information to current students and their parents.

Internally, the project will reduce time spent on maintenance of Web pages, while improving the quality and accuracy of information provided to all audiences. Academic and administrative units will have more local control of content and the manner in which it is published to the Web. It is easy to integrate Banner data into the portals.

Project Benefits include:

  • A more current, better-looking and more attractive Web site will have more appeal for all of our internal and external constituencies, and improve an area where Drake has done poorly with respect to the expectations of those groups.
  • Improved service to internal and external constituencies, giving access to a wide range of Web services through an individualized portal, will have a range of benefits.
  • Alumni will be able to build their community and make contributions.
  • Prospective students will be able to book campus visits, apply to Drake, apply for financial aid, track their application and learn about orientation activities.
  • Students, faculty and staff will access current Web services through a single point of entry, customized to them.
  • Everyone one will have improved access to information through the Web site and a portal for visitors, news media, etc.
