Drake Student Health Center

The American Republic Student Health Center is an on-campus medical facility offering quality healthcare to full-time Drake students.

Services offered include (not limited to):

  • Basic physical exams
  • STD testing and treatment
  • Allergy injections
  • Family practice support
  • Women health services 

The center is comprised of two nurse practitioners and two registered nurses. Students can get immediate answers on medical related concerns, receive remedial treatment, and assistance in connecting with local physicians and hospitals when a higher level of medical support is needed.

Monday, Tuesday and Thursday

8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Wednesday

8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Friday

8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. 

 

  • Calls made after normal business hours will be answered by phone mail.   
  • Hours vary during holidays, breaks and summer sessions.
  • If you need medical attention after hours, visit our AFTER HOURS page for local listings of medical providers.
  • For life threatening emergencies dial 911.

Appointments

Students are seen by appointment only. 

What happens if you’re late to your appointment?

  • If you’re 5 minutes late, our staff will do our best to fit you in however, you may have to wait longer than expected.
  • If you’re 10 minutes late, you'll have to reschedule.

What if you need to cancel?

  • All cancellations MUST be made 2 hours prior to your scheduled appointment.
  • Failing to do so 3 or more times within an academic year, you need to seek medical care elsewhere for the remainder of the year. 

Also, please note, our medical staff will not give notes or passes for missed classes.

Before scheduling an appointment, students are encouraged to make sure the medical attention they’re seeking is necessary. If a student feels a professor or parent needs to talk with someone in the American Republic Student Health Center, the student will be required to complete and sign a “Medical Release of Information” form granting permission for the American Republic Student Health Center staff to speak with designated personnel.

 

Payments / Fees

Majority of services are provided at no charge.

Laboratory tests not performed at the American Republic Health Center are sent to Iowa Methodist Hospital laboratory and are to be paid by the student. 

The American Republic Health Center does not submit fees for insurance billing / reimbursement.

  • Management of existing conditions such as asthma, diabetes, etc.
  • Contraceptive Counseling
  • Health Care Education and Counseling
  • Health Screenings
  • Testing for Sexually Transmitted Infections

  • Medications
  • Annual Physicals
  • Immunizations - Hepatitis B, Measles / Mumps / Rubells, Flu, Hepatitis A, Tetanus, Meningitis
  • TB Skin Test (Mantoux)
  • Allergy Injections
  • Annual Pap Exam
