Zimpleman College of Business Scholarships

Application Instructions
The following must be submitted by the deadline to be considered:
- A completed application to Drake University, including all required application materials.
- A completed Zimpleman College of Business Scholarship application, including all required application materials. This application must indicate a major of interest to be eligible for certain scholarships and awards.
- A submitted Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or an International Student Financial Information Form (ISFIF).
- Drake’s FAFSA code is 001860.
Students will be notified of scholarship and gift aid awards in mid-late spring.
Undergraduate Scholarships for Zimpleman Students
This scholarship honors the legacy of economics professor emeritus Dr. Edward Alley. This scholarship is granted to a Drake University economics major who has completed their second year.
Scholarship Specifics and Requirements
- The Professor Edward Alley scholarship is renewable for up to two years (junior and senior).
- Recipients must be an economics major within Drake University’s Zimpleman College of Business.
- Recipients of this award must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher.
- Recipients of this award must have completed their second (sophomore) year to be eligible.
This award was established by former students and friends of Dr. and Mrs. Bohlman in their honor. Dr. Bohlman served as the former Dean of the College of Business Administration at Drake, and Mrs. Bohlman taught economics at various schools and colleges in Des Moines. This award is granted to two students each year.
Scholarship Specifics and Requirements
- The Herbert W. and Edna M. Bohlman Award is renewable for one year.
- Recipients of this award must be either an economics major within Drake’s Zimpleman College of Business, or another major within Zimpleman College of Business. One economics student and one Zimpleman student are chosen each year.
- Recipients of this award are nominated and selected by Zimpleman College of Business faculty.
- Recipients are typically juniors at Drake, to apply the award toward their senior year.
The Roger K. Brooks scholarship is funded by friends of retired Chairman of AmerUs Roger Brooks. This award is given to Zimpleman College of Business actuarial science majors or students in its actuarial science joint programs.
Program Specifics and Requirements
- The Roger K. Brooks Actuarial Science Scholarship is a $3,500 award, renewable up to two years through the recipient’s sophomore year.
- Recipients must be entering first-year actuarial science students at Drake University in the Zimpleman College of Business.
- Recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher.
- Recipients must remain actuarial science majors for the duration of this award.
The Dr. Newt Bowers Endowed Scholarship was created in honor of emeritus professor of actuarial science Dr. Newt Bowers. This renewable award is given to an actuarial science major.
Program Specifics and Requirements
- The Dr. Newt Bowers Endowed Scholarship is a $1,000 award, renewable up to four years.
- Recipients must be entering first-year actuarial science students at Drake University in the Zimpleman College of Business.
- Recipients must remain in good academic standing.
- Recipients must remain actuarial science majors for the duration of this award.
Zimpleman College of Business Dean Team Scholars will be immersed in the world of business through ongoing meetings with the Dean of the Zimpleman College of Business throughout their first year at Drake.
Program Specifics and Requirements
- Zimpleman Dean Team Scholars will receive a one-time $1,000 award for books.
- Recipients must be entering first-year students at Drake University in the Zimpleman College of Business.
- Recipients must demonstrate academic excellence with a high school GPA of 3.8 or higher on a 4.0 scale or equivalent.
- Recipients must attend a virtual or on-campus visit event by the application deadline.
- Recipients must apply and submit a Zimpleman College of Business Dean Team application. This is separate from the Drake University application and the Zimpleman College of Business Scholarship application.
- Recipients must submit two video essays with their Dean Team application.
- Recipients must attend monthly Dean Team Scholars meetings with the Dean of Zimpleman during the student’s first year at Drake.
- Dean Team Scholars will receive enhanced class registration support.
- Dean Team Scholars will have leadership development opportunities including mentorship of future Zimpleman Dean Team Scholars.
- Recipients must show a commitment to servant leadership through the Dean’s Honor Roll for Social Impact.
- Dean Team Scholars will be given preferential admission and priority access to scholarships if they choose to pursue a graduate business program within the Zimpleman College of Business.
The Drake Scholars Award is granted to every Zimpleman College of Business student enrolling at the Drake Law School through the 3+3 program.
Program Specifics and Requirements
- The Drake Scholars Award is a $5,000 award, renewable for all three years of law school.
- Recipients of this award must be on the Business/Law 3+3 track.
- This award is only applicable toward the law degree portion of the 3+3 track.
- Recipients must be admitted and enrolled into the Drake Law School.
- Recipients must remain in good academic standing.
- This award may be combined with other scholarships up to full Drake Law School tuition.
- This award overrides the typical Law 3+3 award exemption since it does not apply toward the undergraduate degree portion of the 3+3 track.
Joint Undergraduate and Graduate Degree Path Exemptions
In the case of a student pursuing a joint undergraduate and graduate degree path, annual awards may not carry through their entire time at Drake. See the limits and exemptions to these awards here.
Undergraduate awards available for first 3 years or until the 1st year of the Law Program (L1).
Undergraduate awards available for first 4 years or through the 2nd year of the Pharmacy Program (P2).
Undergraduate awards available for first 3 years or until the 1st year of Occupational Therapy Program (O1). There is a one-time $5,000 scholarship available for O1 students.
