Edward Kelley received a M.F.A. in sculpture from Syracuse University in 2005 and a B.A. from the College of Charleston in 1999. Prior to joining the Drake community, Edward worked in the fine arts industry as a mold and pattern maker as well as owning and operating a fine arts services company. Edward continues his interest in mold making by organizing and leading a yearly cast metal workshop in the sculpture department.
Edwards’ studio practice involves an exploration of traditional sculptural materials and techniques used to address our collective history as individuals and as artists. Edward creates objects that seem to exist somewhere between a narrative and a physical space as a way to subtly tease our serious nature. The constant awareness of our peripheral senses and the ability to recognize layered meanings within brief moments of time are implemented into both research and subject.
