What does a typical day look like for you in this role?

A typical day at Simpson College usually starts with treatment. Athletes can sign up for treatment as needed. These appointments can range from evaluating new injuries to working through old injuries, soreness, pain, sickness, etc. Following treatment, I work on documentation and prep for practice/games. Prep can include taping athletes, getting water set up, stocking my medical kit, etc. My day typically ends with practice/game coverage.

What do you enjoy most about your current role?

The best part of my job is the athletes. I started this position in August of 2022 and the athletes have been so welcoming. I couldn’t imagine a better community of people to work with every day.

How did Drake and the MAT program help prepare you for this role?

The Drake MAT program helped prepare me for this role by offering a variety of clinical experiences to me when I was a student. The Drake MAT program has connections to some of the best Athletic Trainer Mentors and preceptors who helped me succeed in and outside of the classroom.

What did you like best about Drake's MAT program?

One thing I liked best about Drake's MAT program was the smaller class sizes. You really get to know your professors and get plenty of hands-on experience. Dr. Rodgers, Dr. Williams, and Dr. Newman are all passionate about helping their students succeed.

What is one piece of advice you have for individuals who are considering Drake's MAT program?

When looking for MAT programs, it’s important to find a unique program that will set you up for success in the future. As I entered the workforce, I realized how special my MAT education was because I chose Drake. The Drake MAT program taught me things in school that other programs don't offer or teach. Drake University can offer a variety of learning experiences because of its location and the connections they have made. Finally, it is because of these experiences and amazing professors that the Drake MAT program has a 100% first-try pass rate on the Board of Certification.
