We follow guidelines set by our national society, American Association For Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, which will prepare you well for professional exams like the MCAT.
Students interested in BCMB application areas might consider the B.A. degree. It consists of a balance of core and advanced classes from chemistry and biology with the flexibility to fit career interests, such as medicine, law, business, or education.
The core courses are taken from biology (cell, molecular, genetics), chemistry (organic, biochemistry), math (calculus/statistics), research, and seminar. Advanced course requirements consist of a selection of advanced molecular courses from from areas including virology, immunology, structural, and informatics as well as career-specific electives that may be non-molecular in nature. Students should work with their advisor to choose advanced classes appropriate to advance their personal career objectives.
