Research

During the academic year, BCMB students participate in campus laboratories with Drake professors in Chemistry, Biology, and Physics, in regional laboratories (Pioneer, Des Moines University), and in summer research at national research institutions.

Topics vary widely and include virology, cell-wall structure-function, hemorrhagic shock, plant genetic engineering, and organic synthesis of bio-mimicking molecules. We have a hands-on philosophy so our students are actively engaged in the research learning wet-lab and instrumental techniques as well as teamwork, communication, and critical thinking skills in their research experiences. Many students are authors on professional presentations and publications.
