Drake Neighborhood

The Drake Neighborhood is one of the largest, oldest, and most diverse neighborhoods in Des Moines, Iowa. It stretches from 42nd Street to Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway, and from Interstate 235 to Franklin Avenue. It’s home to Drake University, the city’s oldest independent art-house movie theater, coffee shops, pubs, great restaurants, century-old churches, mature trees, a fabulous live music and art scene, historic homes of all styles, and incredible people.

About the Drake Neighborhood Association:

Made up entirely of volunteers, it's the second-oldest neighborhood association in Des Moines. Among other things, the association helps ensure the neighborhood has a voice in government decisions, encourages neighborhood beautification and safety improvements, and hosts special events that build community and make this awesome neighborhood even better. About the video: Produced by the Drake Neighborhood Association with a grant from the Neighborhood Finance Corporation, the video takes a closer look at people who live here and why they love this neighborhood, in their own words. The footage was filmed by neighborhood studio owner and videographer Jon Locker at public events and in homes across the neighborhood in 2017, with assistance from DNA board members and a host of smart, beautiful, funny, and creative neighbors.
