Pinning Ceremonies

The Pinning Ceremony is a tradition for welcoming pharmacy, occupational therapy, health sciences and nursing students to their final phase of education, in which they'll embark on their rotation, capstone, internship, or career experiences.

Spring Pinning Ceremony

The Spring Pinning Ceremony is a long-standing tradition within the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. It is designed to celebrate the transition into the final phase of education for junior Health Sciences students, second-year Occupational Therapy Doctorate students, and third-year Doctor of Pharmacy students. Students receive their name tags and pins, marking their entry into their internship, capstone, and rotation experiences.

The Spring CPHS Pinning Ceremony will be held in May 2027 in Sheslow Auditorium.

Nursing Pinning Ceremony

The CPHS Nursing Pinning Ceremony serves as a memorable event for Drake Nursing students as they mark the completion of the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program. Students will be pinned by an individual of their choosing who has played a meaningful role in their educational achievements. Information regarding the 2027 Nursing Pinning Ceremony, including a livestream link and event program, can be found here closer to the event. Nursing Pinning Ceremonies take place later in the summer, after students have finished the ABSN program.

Student Information

  • This ceremony is required for students. Family and friends are welcome to join us in person for the ceremony or virtually via livestream. A livestream and event program link will be posted on this webpage prior to the event.
  • Professional/business dress attire is expected. White or blue coats are not needed for this ceremony. In selecting attire, be aware that you will be walking up and down stairs.
  • Please arrive to Sheslow Auditorium by 3:45 p.m. and locate your seat and name card.
  • If any changes to your name card are needed, please mark them on the card as the information will be read as you cross the stage. Be sure to bring your name card with you to the stage.
  • You will be ushered to the stage and announced. There will also be photos taken as you cross the stage and as a new name badge and pin are presented to you. 
  • If you are not able to attend this ceremony, please contact shelby.nelson@drake.edu to let us know so that we can make proper preparations for the ceremony.
