Dr. Sally Haack is Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Her teaching experience includes her work as a preceptor for students at Community Access Pharmacy (an affiliate of Primary Health Care (PHC)), a site serving the underinsured of Des Moines, Patient Assessment Practicums, a course in Advanced Diabetes Care offered online and Therapeutics at Drake. Sally is active in the Iowa Pharmacy Association and has submitted several grants in her time at Drake. She manages and coordinates staff, interpretors, early experiential students, advanced experiential students and serves on several committees both for the College and PHC.
Sally is an excellent example of a committed practitioner for her students. Patient needs are her first priority. Because the population she serves is underinsured with poor access to health care, her advocacy on their behalf is invaluable in obtaining the care they need. Her work at Community Access Pharmacy provides many challenges including language barriers and a trend for poor adherence. Sally teaches her students the importance of negotiating care to improve adherence without compromising health. This requires an entrepreneurial spirit - to persevere against odds without adequate financial and social resources to achieve better patient outcomes.
