Dr. Shankar Munusamy is a Professor of Pharmacology and the Director of Assessment at the Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Dr. Munusamy earned a B.S. and M.S. in Pharmacy from India and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Following a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, he served as an Assistant Professor at the Qatar University College of Pharmacy.
As a Pharmacy educator, Dr. Munusamy has adopted innovative and evidence-based teaching methods in his Pharmacology courses. His educational research focuses on assessing 1) the effectiveness of mnemonics and analogies in promoting knowledge retention and applying pharmacological concepts to clinical scenarios and 2) the impact of in-class mindfulness sessions on improving quality of life and resilience among pharmacy students. Nationally, Dr. Munusamy has chaired and served on multiple committees at the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP). In 2022-23, he chaired the AACP Biological Sciences Section.
Dr. Munusamy said, "Creative problem-solving and developing innovative solutions are integral skills for pharmacists to excel as healthcare leaders." DELTA Rx instills a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among student pharmacists at Drake CPHS. The institute helps pharmacy students develop entrepreneurial leadership skills through structured programs such as summer internship opportunities and Drake’s Next Top Entrepreneur competition.
