Intentional programming shapes the learning experiences of the Public Democracy Scholars and other Drake students with an interest in politics, community leadership, public service, law, policy, or social change.
July 7-9, 2025 | Drake University
The Donna and Darnell Pettengill Civic Leadership Academy is an exclusive opportunity for high school juniors to learn from scholars, policymakers, and thought leaders.
The Academy immerses 28 select high school juniors in an intensive and rewarding leadership development program that will give students the skills to stand out as student leaders.
Achieving community goals requires us to work collaboratively with a diverse cross section of individuals and organizations. To effectively work collaboratively, leaders must build positive and productive relationships.
These relationships are fundamental to civility and are a first step in strengthening our communities. Join us to learn strategies and receive resources that will sharpen your ability to form mutually beneficial partnerships. Plus, you’ll spend time with other leaders, sharing best practices and learning from each others’ experiences.
This program is beneficial for local leaders such as mayors, city council members, administrators, clerks, and chamber officials.
