Requirements

As an Open JMC major, you'll start with the SJMC Core Requirements. These courses provide a strong foundation across a wide range of topics in journalism and communication, from reporting principles to digital strategy to multimedia design.

As a part of those core requirements, you'll also complete the Drake Curriculum, a meaningful liberal arts education designed to give Drake students the breadth of knowledge and skills necessary to successfully function in a complex and rapidly changing world.

Where you go next is up to you. Based on the interests and strengths you've identified during your first two years, you can choose to major in Advertising, Digital Media Production, Journalism/Law 3+3, Magazine Media, News (including Broadcast News), Public Relations, or Strategic Political Communications. You might even choose a double major to expand your career options even further.
