Drake Students Not Enrolled in Pre-Pharmacy FAQ

Drake University's Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program operates on a rolling admission process.  We will interview and admit students until the P1 class is full and a sufficient number of applicants have been identified for the wait list.  We recommend submitting application materials early in order to ensure your application is processed and considered in a timely manner.  Students with strong applications and academic credentials will be invited to complete the second phase of the admission process, which includes a scored admission interview.  All admission materials, including your PharmCAS application (www.pharmcas.org), must be submitted in order for your application to be considered complete.

Drake students who wish to enroll in the PharmD program can choose any major they wish at Drake.  You should choose a major according to your own interests.  It is important not to limit yourself in your first years of study because these years are intended to help you explore a variety of subjects and assess your skills.  The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences considers students of all majors when examining applications for admission.  The most important thing to remember when registering for courses is to make sure you complete all of the required prerequisites prior to enrolling in the PharmD program.  All required math and science courses must be completed by the end of the spring semester prior to enrolling.  English and public speaking requirements must be completed by the end of the summer term prior to enrolling.

The Drake PharmD is accredited to enroll 110 students in the P1 class every year.

Drake considers all applicants equally, regardless of where they complete their prerequisites.  Students should consider enrolling at Drake because they feel it’s the right college for them and wish to earn a Drake degree, whether it is a pharmacy degree or not.  Students should not enroll at Drake only to try to increase their chances of entering the pharmacy program. 

Students choose Drake for a wide variety of reasons: size, location, student-faculty interaction, leadership and cocurricular opportunities, internships, affordability, quality of education, and many more.  Consider the factors that are important to you and whether or not Drake is the best match for your personal and academic interests.  Students should consider enrolling at Drake because they feel it’s the right college for them and wish to earn a Drake degree, whether it is a pharmacy degree or not.  Students should not enroll at Drake only to try to increase their chances of entering the pharmacy program.
