Pharmacy Program Scholarships

The following scholarships are available to incoming P1 students:

Scholarship Name Description
Byrl C. Benton Memorial Scholarship In honor of Byrl Benton, Dean of the College from 1949-1977. Awarded to an incoming P1 student with a prior Bachelor of Science degree.
Cline Scholarships Established by the late Morgan E. Cline, these scholarships are awarded to students who are entering the PharmD program. The award is renewable for up to 4 years. 
John & Melissa Murer Corrigan Scholarship Award Established by John & Melissa Corrigan to honor Melissa’s contributions to the profession of pharmacy through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. Preference is given to a student who has earned PTCB certification or is working as a pharmacy technician.
John R. Ellis Scholarships Established by Jack Ellis, these scholarships are awarded students entering the PharmD program and are renewable for up to 4 years.
Mandel Family Scholarship Established by alumnus Craig Mandel and spouse Ellen Mandel.  Awarded to a student with a 3.0 GPA who increases the diversity goals of the College or is involved in campus or community service activities. 
James W. and Joyce E. Mcluen Scholarship Established by the late alumna James Mcluen. Awarded to to students entering the pharmacy program and renewable for up to 4 years.
Pursuit Scholarship Awarded to a student who has earned a prior Bachelor of Science degree and provides diversity to the College.
Reisetter Scholarship Established by alumnus Brian Reisetter. Awarded to a student who enhances the diversity goals of the College.  The award is renewable for up to 4 years.
Vanadro Scholarship Established by alumna Sanela Bilic, founder and CEO of Vanadro, a drug development consulting company. Awarded to students entering the PharmD program and renewable for up to 4 years.
Verdun Scholarship Established by alumnus Patrick Verdun and spouse Annette Verdun.  Awarded to a student who is from a rural community or enhances the diversity goals of the College. The award is renewable for up to 4 years. 
Walgreens Diversity & Inclusion Excellence Award Established by Walgreens Inc. Awarded to an incoming P1 student with an interest in community pharmacy that embraces and promotes diversity in pharmacy. 
Walgreens Multilingual Scholarship Established by Walgreens Inc. Awarded to an incoming P1 student who is fluent speaking one or more languages in addition to English.

 

Each year, CPHS has several scholarships available for current students who will be entering their P3 and P4 academic years. Applications become available during fall term and are due near the end of fall term. The invite to apply will be communicated by email to current P2 and P3 students. Scholarships are announced each year at the annual Health Professions Day for awarding the following academic year. 

Scholarship Name Description
Joe and Gordon Alexander Pharmacy Scholarship Established by alumnus Joe Alexander. Presented to a student from rural Iowa with plans to return to rural Iowa to practice pharmacy after graduation.
Gloria Bernstein Scholarship Established by alumnus Gloria Bernstein. Presented to an LKS member interested in community pharmacy.
Ted Brytensen Scholarship Established in the memory of Ted Brytensen. Presented to a student pharmacist in their P3 or P4 year.
David L. Budds Scholarship Established by alumnus David Budds. Presented to a student pharmacist in their P3 or P4 year.
Jordan Elizabeth Burger Memorial Pharmacy Scholarship Established by Dean and Andrea Burger in memory of their daughter Jordan Elizabeth Burger (PH'12, GR'12). Awarded to students who 1) are pursuing a PharmD/MBA, 2) are members of Kappa Alpha Theta, or 3) possess a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. 
CVS Health Foundation Scholarship Presented to students in good academic standing and are bilingual.
C. Boyd Granberg Student Excellence Fund Presented annually to a student pharmacist who exhibits high ethical standards, reflective practice, innovation, and community service, honoring the values and actions of Dr. Granberg.
Kenneth & Helen Hartig Memorial Scholarship Established by Dick Hartig in honor of his parents, Kenneth & Helen Hartig. Presented to a female student from Iowa with strong character befitting of a pharmacy professional.
Richard & Brenda Hartig Scholarship Established by alumnus and President of Hartig Drug, Richard Hartig. Preference is given to those students employed by or residing near Hartig store locations.
Kirk Hayes Pharmacist Mutual Scholarship Established by Pharmacist Mutual in honor of alumnus Kirk Hayes, previous CEO and Board of Directors of Pharmacist Mutual. Presented to a student pharmacist in their P3 or P4 year who demonstrates significant interest in independent, underserved community, or armed forces pharmacy practice.
Steven R. and Karen L. Herwig Pharmacy Scholarship Established by alumni Karen and Steven Herwig and presented to a student pharmacist in their P3 or P4 year.
Iowa Pharmacy Foundation Scholarships Presented to students involved professionally in the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
Iowa Pharmacy Foundation – Eggleston/Granberg Golf Outing Scholarship
Presented to students involved professionally in the College; preference is given to students who participated in the annual golf outing event.
Carl Jakopec Scholarship Established by alum Carl Jakopec (PH'69) and awarded to P3 or P4 students.
June Felice Johnson Scholarship Established by June Johnson, former faculty member in the CPHS. Awarded to students who have demonstrated preparation for and an interest in pursuing a career in diabetes patient care and education.
Roger W. Lee Pharmacy Scholarship Established by Todd (PH'97) and Amy Lee in memory of Roger W. Lee. Awarded to PharmD students who will be first-generation pharmacists. 
PharmD Scholarships Presented to a P3 student with financial need.
Plough Foundation Scholarships Students who meet criteria established may be awarded scholarships from the Plough Pharmacy Student Scholarship Fund. Criteria for selection include scholarship, financial need and leadership. Recipients of the awards are designated as Plough Scholars.
Purdum Family Pharmacy Scholarship Established by Anna and James Purdum. Presented to student pharmacists in their P3 or P4 year who are first generation college students.
Loretta M. and Thomas M. Pursel Sr. Family Pharmacy Scholarship Established by family of Loretta and Thomas Pursel in honor of their commitment to higher education and the Drake community. Presented to a student pharmacist in their P3 or P4 year who has served in a student leadership position, served in the military, or is a single parent.
Ron and Linda Snow Scholarship Established by Ron (PH'81) and Linda (PH'80) Snow. Awarded to students who have demonstrated an interest in pursuing community or hospital pharmacy.
James G. Snyder Scholarship Established by the late alumnus Dr. James Snyder. Presented to a student who enhances the diversity goals of CPHS, particularly in the area of special needs.
Stout Pharmacy Student-Athlete Scholarship Established by alumna Annie Stout. Awarded to a P3 or P4 student pharmacists who have been or are varsity student athletes or cheer squad members.
Walgreen Co. Scholarship Scholarships are awarded to students who are interns employed by Walgreens or have an interest in community practice. Special awards are presented to students who have engaged in research that has benefited community pharmacy practice.
James Wetzeler Scholarship In honor of James Wetzeler, previous preceptor of Drake students, For a student interested in independent community pharmacy.
Amanda L. Wilken Pharmacy Scholarship Presented to students who are pursuing a degree in addition to the PharmD degree from Drake university, in the memory of Amanda Wilken (posthumous Class of 2019).
