Timm Pilcher

Assistant Director, Career Services / Academic Advising Specialist

Timm Pilcher joined the SJMC from Des Moines Public Schools after almost 30 years as a scholastic publications adviser and middle-school administrator. His publications won numerous state and national awards, and he has taught various journalism workshops around the country, as well as been a keynote speaker, presenter and judge at state and national journalism conventions.

He currently works with the Educational Testing Service (ETS) designing the journalism PRAXIS exam, is a past Iowa High School Journalism Teacher of the Year and past president of the Iowa High School Press Association. 

Pilcher has a BS in journalism and education, an M.Ed. in educational leadership and curriculum & instruction, and is working on his doctorate in educational leadership. He is certified as a Master Journalism Educator through the Journalism Education Association (JEA) and teaches the JMC 40 Pre-Professional Workshop and JMC 109 Internship classes.
