Drake University offers a comprehensive Computer Science endorsement for K-12 educators as well as a Computer Science Specialist endorsement.
Our K-12 Computer Science endorsement program prepares individuals to teach computer science at the elementary or secondary level. To pursue a K-8 or 5-12 Computer Science endorsement, five classes are needed in addition to another primary endorsement area other than computer science.

During the summer, we typically offer two endorsement classes tailored specifically to teachers. During the academic year, courses are available for undergraduate and graduate education majors as well as computer science majors.
To pursue the Computer Science Specialist endorsement, 24 credit hours of computer science classes are required in addition to completing Drake’s core education curriculum and a computer science methods course. This endorsement is appropriate for people with significant coursework in computer science who are not currently teachers. Courses that count toward this endorsement need to be approved by a Drake academic advisor.
