Drake offers two areas of study in special education at the graduate level: a master's degree and an endorsement-only track.
Drake’s Master of Science in Special Education (MSE) is specifically designed for those who are currently teaching and seeking a graduate degree. Our interactive, collaborative classes are designed for those currently teaching and are looking for additional strategies to help meet the needs of their students. This authentic, hands-on approach enables teacher practitioners to immediately apply what they learn in their classrooms. Completion of the MSE will not only help you become a well-informed teacher, it will also provide you with the skills necessary to advance your career and to take on additional leadership roles.
The Drake School of Education also offers an endorsement only track. This path allows those currently holding an Iowa Teaching Certificate to add endorsements in the area of special education. The following four endorsement options are available:
Convenient Scheduling: Designed for working professionals, with night and weekend classes.
Professional Development Opportunities: Attend and present at the Midwest Symposium for Leadership in Behavioral Disorders Conference.
Personalized Instruction: Experienced, top-notch faculty lead courses with applicable and innovative curriculum.
Ideal Location: Drake has connections to urban, rural, suburban, public and private schools, so that you can gain the type of experience you need to have the teaching career you desire.
Student-centered Instruction: Small class sizes foster engagement between students and faculty.
