As a Sports Media and Communication major, you have the opportunity to work with Drake’s NCAA Division I Athletics programs, abundant professional sports organizations and a growing number of amateur sports and recreation opportunities in Des Moines, Iowa’s capital city. Our strong partnerships ensure you build professional connections and portfolios through hands-on experiences.

In Drake’s Sports Media and Communication major, you will learn to communicate effectively across multiple channels and demonstrate expertise in researching, concepting and creating dynamic sports-related storytelling and strategic projects that meet media and/or organization goals. Depending on your interests and aspirations, you might choose a double major or dual degree in data analytics, marketing, graphic design or one of our Law 3+3 programs. 

Sports Media and Communication Faculty

Assistant Professor David Lubbers, former ESPN investigative feature producer and multi-award-winning sports journalist, brings his extensive professional experiences into the classroom with engaging, interactive assignments that help you elevate your storytelling skills. Professor Mu He teaches courses in PR strategy, Sports Publicity and Promotion and applied research, using networking, guest speakers, case studies and hands-on activities to explore a wide range of sports communication and crisis management topics.
