Dr. Jeffrey A. Kappen is an Associate Professor of Management and International Business at the Drake University Zimpleman College of Business. Grounded primarily in institutional approaches, his research examines how socio-cultural differences are negotiated and legitimated within organizing processes. Current projects include the formation of new transnational partnerships across varieties of capitalism, the implications of corporate language policies, and experiential education in international business. His most recent publications have explored the impact of culture and religion on insurance, financial services, and sustainability issues in emerging markets. Dr. Kappen holds a bachelor’s degree cum laude from Beloit College in International Relations, French, and Russian, an MBA in International Business and Marketing from the University of Wisconsin and a Ph.D. in Management and Organization Studies from the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts. Before returning to academia, Dr. Kappen spent ten years working with companies from start-ups to the Fortune 100, which included over three years working and studying in Europe and South America.
