Yiqing Chen, Ph.D.

Professor of Actuarial Science and Risk Management

Dr. Yiqing Chen is Professor of Actuarial Science in the Zimpleman College of Business at Drake University. She received her Ph.D. in Actuarial Science from the University of Hong Kong in 2009. Since then she has held a tenure-track and subsequently a tenured faculty position at the University of Liverpool until she joined Drake University's Zimpleman College of Business in August 2014.

Her research interests include modeling extreme risks, quantitative risk management, and insurance solvency analysis. She has published 28 papers, among which 8 appear in Insurance: Mathematics and Economics, 2 in Advances in Applied Probability, and 3 in Journal of Applied Probability. As of July 2024, Google Scholar shows that her papers have received 930 citations in total resulting in an H index of 15 and that 7 of her papers have over 70 citations each. She was the PI of a 2015 Individual Grant from the CAS, and together with the actuarial science group of the University of Iowa she is a PI of a multi-PI CAE grant from the SOA with amount $228,000 for 2018-2021.

She is currently serving Statistics and Probability Letters (B ranking on the ABDC list) as an Associate Editor and served Risks as Guest Editor of two special issues.
