About the Buchanans

Bill Buchanan, BN’57, and his wife, Jean, established the Buchanan Center in 2009 with a generous $3 million gift. Bill graduated with a degree in actuarial science from the Zimpleman College of Business at Drake University and was chairman of Unified Life Insurance, Co.

The Buchanans are dedicated members of the Drake family. Bill serves on the Zimpleman National Advisory Council, received the Drake University Alumni Loyalty Award in 2007, and received the Zimpleman College of Business Leadership Award in 2017. In addition to supporting the Center, they have also contributed to other causes at the University.
