Application Process

‌Balancing work, life and school can be challenging. At Drake's CBPA, you'll find the flexibility you need to make it work.  With entry points throughout the year and classes offered exclusively in the evening and on weekends, Drake makes it convenient for you to enroll, attend classes and complete your advanced degree.

Application materials required for an admission review include:

Application for Admission

Complete and digitally sign our online Application for Admission and pay the $50 application fee. 

The application fee is waived for Drake alumni and current students. 

Résumé or Curriculum Vitae

A current professional résumé or curriculum vitae is required. Please include information regarding current and/or past employment history as well as professional development and internships completed.


A typed, one-page essay is required. The essay should provide details about how a graduate education at Drake University will help you reach your academic and career goals.

Letters of Recommendation

Two letters of recommendations are required. When selecting your references, choose individuals such as professors and employers who can attest to your potential for success in a graduate program. 

You will enter the names and email contacts for your two references into the online application. Your references will be contacted electronically with directions for submitting their letters of recommendation on your behalf.


Official transcripts from every college or university previously attended are required. Any college credit earned, even while in high school or at a community college, must be accounted for before your application can be reviewed.

Official transcripts are designated as those coming directly from the University or College of attendance to Drake University.

Entrance Exam

An official entrance exam score from one of the following exams is required. For details regarding testing locations and registration, please click on the links provided.




*Please note that LSAT scores are only accepted from current Drake University Juris Doctor students.

Entrance Exam Waiver

The entrance exam is automatically waived if you meet one of the three conditions below.

  1. You are a Drake University CBPA undergraduate alumnus from within the last five years and have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher.
  2. You are a Drake University CBPA current undergraduate student with cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher and have completed 90 semester credits.
  3. You hold a masters or terminal degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher from a U.S. regionally accredited institution.

You may apply for an entrance exam waiver if you meet all of the conditions below. Your waiver request will be reviewed by the graduate committee before approval is granted.

  1. You have five years of progressive post-graduate work experience.
    • You must include an essay with your application detailing your progressive work experience.
  2. You have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher from a U.S. regionally accredited institution.
  3. You have least 9 semester credits of undergraduate quantitative coursework.
    • Quantitative coursework may include courses in math, statistics, economics or other quantitative oriented courses.

International Students

International students will require additional documents for admissions.


Completed applications are due by the following dates:

  • January 1 for classes starting in spring (January)
  • April 1 for classes starting in summer (May/June)
  • August 1 for classes starting in fall (August)
